About Us
Straight from the Roots
We love simple, honest food — straight from the roots.
At Bodhie Tree, we are more than just a food company. We strive to bring heritage foods to your table that bring pure joy, real nutrition, and a sense of tradition. We are committed to restoring heritage food practices, supporting agricultural communities, and bringing back wholesomeness into our everyday meals. We are truly happy to add value to the meals you lovingly prepare and share with friends and family.
Our inspiration comes from families and friends eating together — meals that spark conversations, create bonds, and build memories. Taking care of one’s own health and that of loved ones through simple and wholesome food is powerful and easy to adopt.
Bodhie Tree is delighted to be part of this journey — bringing back the authenticity and goodness of heritage foods.
We believe food should not only nourish the body but also tell a story. In an age of mass production, we focus on preserving ancient food varieties and work closely with farming communities on the ground. These agricultural practices are sustainable and rooted in natural farming traditions passed down through generations.
- Small farmers grow these native crops the traditional way — without chemicals, using seeds and methods that have stood the test of time.
- We begin with just one rice: Kala Namak Rice. Wholesomeness of real food, from the right place, on your table.
- Our commitment is to quality, authenticity, and the well-being of both our consumers and our farming partners. Every product, starting with our featured Kala Namak Rice, carries purity and a legacy of taste and health you can trust.
- Our passion is to bring unique heritage foods — along with the stories behind them — to every home, and to proudly share some of India’s heritage grains and food with the world.
Kala Namak Rice: The Black Pearl of India
A Gift from Lord Buddha, a Treasure for Your Health
Discover Kala Namak Rice — a legendary, highly aromatic heritage rice with a history that stretches over 3,000 years. This unique rice traces its roots back to the Buddhist period (around 600 BCE) and is often referred to locally as “Buddha Rice.”
Grown exclusively in the Terai region of Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Kala Namak Rice is a protected Geographical Indication (GI) variety, known for its distinctive black husk (where “kala” means black and “namak” refers to its mildly salty aroma). Once cooked, the grains turn white, fluffy, soft, and non-sticky — perfect for everyday meals that feel special.
Its rare and powerful aroma — often compared to fresh popcorn or sandalwood — depends entirely on the region’s native soil and climate, which is why true Kala Namak Rice cannot be replicated anywhere else.
